Vision and Ethos
“No human face is exactly the same in its lines on each side, no leaf perfect in it’s lobes, no branch in its symmetry. All admit irregularity as they imply change; and to banish imperfection is to destroy expression, to check exertion, to paralyze vitality.”
-John Ruskin, On Art And Life (1883)
Alexander is primarily focused on reviving pre-industrial methods of design and production, specifically, delving into periods in history when the bond between the designer and maker was strong, and material limitations imparted uniqueness to every creation. He believes our journey towards fulfillment lies in cherishing the individuality that adorns us, manifested through the very garments and objects we choose to adorn ourselves with. The collective disregard for the importance of quality, craftsmanship, and artistry has not only become a conduit for overconsumption and environmental degradation, but has, in many ways, destroyed this individuality for laborers and consumers alike. Guided by this concern, every creation from Alexander is designed with the purpose of becoming an heirloom; precious and timeless, which appreciates the inherent beauty of our world.
